UNITED AIRLINES appoints Oscar the Grouch as its Chief Trash Officer in a move to make its operations more eco-friendly

United Airlines taps SESAME STREET's Oscar the Grouch as Chief Trash Officer to educate people about the benefits of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in a public awareness campaign.

SAF, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions from air travel, is made from used cooking oil and agricultural waste and could be produced from other materials like household trash or forest waste. United's chief communications officer, Josh Earnest, hopes Oscar the Grouch will simplify SAF in a fun and approachable way that would engage and educate employees, customers, and the public on the benefits of the fuel.

The campaign will run on digital billboards, social media, Hulu, YouTube, and onboard United flights. Travelers also have the chance to contribute to United's investment in the UAV Sustainable Flight Fund, which helps to decarbonize air travel by accelerating research, production, and technologies associated with SAF.
