The world watched (sort of) as RYAN REYNOLDS and ROB McELHENNEY received colonoscopies

Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney separately underwent televised colon cancer screening exams to raise awareness about the rising number of cases involving the disease and to encourage adults under the age of 50 to get tested for it (it was a good thing the duo were checked—doctors found a small polyp in Reynold’s colon and three in McElhenney’s). Audiences didn’t see the full procedure performed on Reynolds and McElhenney, just the parts where the two were given anesthesia and were later in recovery. The actors did their part for colon cancer awareness in conjunction with the nonprofit Colorectal Cancer Alliance and Lead From Behind. The awareness-builder was the result of Reynolds losing a bet with McElhenney, his co-investor in a Wrexham, Wales, soccer club. After the pair acquired the team, Reynolds challenged McElhenney to learn to speak Welsh and sweetened the pot by promising McElhenney that he (Reynolds) would undergo a colonoscopy in public if McElhenney could successfully master the language (which McElhenney did).
