Reese's responds to Covid-era Halloween with robotic candy delivery door

Your doorbell rings, you open the front door, and greeting you is…another front door. No, it’s not the neighborhood kids pranking you again. This time it’s a robotic mobile candy dispenser sent by candy brand Reese’s to visit your neighborhood. If you say “trick or treat” to the 9-foot-tall door, a king-size package of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups automatically slides out from its mail slot and lands in your eagerly awaiting hands.

Thanks to COVID, “this Halloween is unlike any other, so we've upped the ante on creativity…," said Reese's Senior Brand Manager Allen Dark. According to the company, the roving door is a sanitary, hands-free way to dole out treats—one that also satisfies the craving among 63 percent of surveyed adults who want to see people “find creative, fun and safe ways to celebrate the Halloween season.”

Reese’s says the motorized door rolls through neighborhoods via remote control operated up to nearly a mile away. “You'll know it's coming before it even arrives thanks to the smoke, lights and epic Halloween soundtrack that comes along with it,” the brand said. Check out this video of the Reese’s door or go to @Reeses on Instagram and use the hashtag #ReesesDoor to arrange for a visit to your neighborhood.
