MOONPIE threw shade at the sun with help from TOMBRAS

The hot, beating sun can be bad for the skin. It’s unquestionably very bad for the chocolaty marshmallow treat made by Moonpie (as in, it transforms the sweet snack into a gooey mess faster than you can say “SPF 50”). So Moonpie got together with Tombras, the maker of Sun Bad sunscreen, to fight back against ultraviolet rays by introducing a marshmallow-scented sun blocker in time for the arrival of the summer solstice (a.k.a., the longest day of the year—June 21 to be exact—when the sun is up in the sky for the longest number of hours and thus potentially able to do the most harm to skin).

The mashup product was offered online and at Chattanooga-based MoonPie’s four retail locations in Tennessee and Alabama. An entire humor-laced campaign was built around the product: the centerpiece was a 60-second commercial shot at a crowded swimming pool. This wasn’t the first time Moonpie and Tombras have partnered—they’ve been joining forces to good effect on social media and elsewhere since 2015.
